You do not have to white-knuckle your way through "the change"
Here’s what nobody tells you: the transition through perimenopause and into menopause can start a decade earlier than you expect, last longer than anyone warns you, and show up as far more than hot flashes. Sleep falls apart. Your mood does things you don’t recognize. Your body composition shifts. You feel foggy, flat, and frankly a little furious that no one prepared you.
And then — too often — you’re told to just push through it.
Hard pass.
At Willow Tree, we treat perimenopause and menopause as what they are: a major hormonal transition your body is fully capable of moving through with support — not a sentence to suffering. Whether you’re using hormone replacement therapy, can’t or don’t want to, or are still deciding, acupuncture and integrative medicine can help your system find steadier ground. You return to the center of your own care. Imagine that.
We help you navigate these challenging yet rewarding times to help you with natural solutions and menopause support to thrive during your perimenopause and menopause journey.
This one's personal
I didn’t fully understand how disruptive this transition could be until it came for me.
When I hit my own transition to menopause, I was caught off guard by how uncomfortable — at times debilitating — it was. And I’m a doctor who specializes in this. If I felt blindsided and dismissed, I knew exactly how the women in my treatment room felt: unseen, unheard, told it was all in their heads.
It’s not in your head. It’s in your endocrine system, your nervous system, and a culture that has historically shrugged at women’s discomfort. Supporting people through this transition with real tools, real listening, and zero dismissal has become one of the central missions of my practice.

How does acupuncture actually help with menopause symptoms?
Fair question. Your reproductive hormones are run by a constant conversation between your brain and ovaries (the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis). As that system shifts during perimenopause and menopause, the fallout shows up everywhere — temperature regulation, sleep, mood, metabolism.
Research suggests acupuncture works on several fronts: influencing the release of beta-endorphins and neurotransmitters tied to your internal thermostat and mood, shifting you out of “fight or flight” into the parasympathetic state where the body regulates and repairs, and supporting better sleep, which improves nearly everything else.

Our Balanced Approach
Menopause care should be more than enduring it. We map your full picture — symptoms, sleep, stress, cycle history, lifestyle — and build a plan that addresses the root patterns, not just the loudest symptom this week.
That usually means acupuncture, often paired with custom herbal medicine, targeted supplement guidance, and practical diet and lifestyle adjustments that fit your real life. Evidence-informed, individualized, and built to give you back your energy, your sleep, and your sense of yourself.

Perimenopause & Menopause Acupuncture FAQs
What’s the difference between perimenopause and menopause, and how do I know which I’m in? Perimenopause is the transition leading up to menopause, when hormones fluctuate and cycles become irregular — it can last several years and often brings the most intense symptoms. Menopause is the point when you’ve gone 12 months without a period; everything after is post-menopause. Many of our patients are in perimenopause without realizing it. At your first visit we help you understand where you are and what to expect.
Can I really be in perimenopause in my 30s? Yes. Perimenopause commonly begins in the mid-to-late 30s to early 40s, earlier than many people expect. If you’re noticing changes in your cycle, sleep, mood, or energy in your 30s, it’s worth taking seriously rather than dismissing.
Can acupuncture help with perimenopause anxiety, mood swings, and irritability? Yes — these are some of the most common reasons women come to us. By calming the stress response and supporting hormonal regulation, acupuncture can ease anxiety, low mood, and the irritability that can feel out of character during this transition.
Can I get acupuncture if I’m on HRT or considering it? Absolutely. Acupuncture works well alongside hormone replacement therapy and is a common choice for women who can’t or don’t want to use HRT, or who are on it but still have lingering symptoms. We support whatever decision is right for you and your medical team.
Can acupuncture help with menopause insomnia and 3 a.m. wake-ups? Sleep disruption is one of the most treatable and impactful symptoms we address. Acupuncture can help with both trouble falling asleep and the early-morning waking common in perimenopause, and better sleep tends to improve mood, energy, and clarity across the board.
How many treatments will I need before I notice a difference? It varies, but most patients begin noticing changes — better sleep, fewer or milder hot flashes, steadier mood — within the first several weeks of consistent treatment. Hormonal patterns shift gradually, so we usually recommend a course of regular sessions and adjust as your body responds. You’ll get a personalized plan at your first visit.
